There are many misconceptions regarding the church. We talk about 'Going to Church", "Doing Church" and "Having Church". Is this way of thinking scriptural? What are other areas that need to be considered?

Buildings

No where in the scriptures does "the Church" refer to Buildings. Granted our English word, "Church" comes from the Greek "Kryiakon" which means the "House of God". However, Jesus never used the word "Kryiakon". He used the word "Ekklesia" which refers to PEOPLE.

Despite this, we still say, "I am going to Church". Church is not a PLACE.

Meetings

Modern Christianity is built around meetings. Admonitions like that in Hebrews 10 about not forsaking meeting together server to reinforce the idea that Church is the Meeting.

When Jesus said "I will build my Ekklesia..." we can be sure that He was not interested in building meetings!

Clergy

While one of the meanings of our English word Church refers to those who are Clergy, the Bible teaches us that there is now no division between clergy and laity in the New Testament

Organisation

Ian't it interesting that Jesus did not set up an organisation to ensure that the message would get out, and that lives would be touched? Do you think that He knew what He was doing?

There was NO follow up, no security, no pecking order, no programmes, and yet, He accomplished all that He was entrusted to!

The church is ORGANIC, and we need to recognise this if we are to reap the benefits of the Kingdom.
